Sigh. Yet another book that I've lost interest in. I started reading it, but then got distracted by a pretty shiny new book called The Queen's Rising which I read all the way through one sitting, and now am interested in more books similar to that one.

I *will* read this one day!

DNF at page 148.

This book was not bad by no means and i can in a way see why people would like this book but it personally was not for me. The one star that it did get was that i kind of liked the Queer romance in some respects, and i LOVE books with Queer romance in, but the romance wasn't enough to keep me hooked in the book.

Instantly, you are thrown into a world, which is stated as America later on and the writing gives the impression that the reader should already know the world (I hope that makes sense). The narrative is very repetitive with the word "blood" being used in every sentence and there was just no need. The story also had the typical YA tropes (not awful if done correctly) of the reluctant hero and there is an element of insta love and a love triangle with "good boy" and "bad boy". This was however, no means the worse part of the novel... more boys need Queer romance in them. The author also did one of my most hated tropes of killing of characters for the sake of killing them off to add a shock factor when in actual fact their death doesn't really mean anything substantial.

The story would have worked better if the world had been developed more. A prologue could have done this was a a mini history of events of perhaps have more descriptive paragraphs in the books.

Trigger Warnings:
-Semi Gore
-Death of characters
- Post War kind of setting with civilisation gone
(there could be more further in the books however i did not manage to reach further into the story)

Was not inspired to finish the story. Didn’t care enough about anyone.
