i'm giving it a 5 star rating against my better judgement.
i think this reads as a above average fanfiction in terms of quality but it was so far above and beyond what i had expected, i ended up being impressed with it. i think it does a really good job setting up a timeline for these events and tidying up the storyline, especially right after the mess that is the save me webtoon. it seems to take place in a timeline where everything went just right. i loved how they portrayed the characters and their relationships (mainly jihope, vmon and yoonkook) but i still have my reservations about how much the storylines seem to try to take from the boys' personalities or experiences in real life. i hope they make that more subtle if (or when) they continue on with these series as i believe it's important to draw a line between fact and fiction and not let the fandom cross it. (some theories and how people relate their own songs to the events in the hyyh universe has been distasteful in my opinion.) other than that, i really enjoyed it and finished it in under 3 hours, craving more.
gave it 5 stars solely because i can't believe this is a novel that sprung from music videos of a music group. 2 years ago, i had watched the dope music video and liked it, but not enough to check bts further; only to stumble upon blood sweat & tears mv and being completely captivated by it. after i learned both these mvs were of the same group, i had asked people who they were. so many people had told me that they were bts and that their music videos were connected, telling a story. i was so interested in that idea that i decided to check them out. before i knew it, i was a fan of them. became a fan of a celebrity/public figure for the first time since i was a fifth grader. 2 years passed, i still think it's so impressive that they are telling a story like this through their music videos... hope they continue to do so. it's not only impressive but it's also very inspiring!!

I’ve read the book, read the webtoon and watched the music videos but I still can’t make sense of this story. This provides more questions than answers 😭 I’m so tired, Big Hit please just give it to us straight 🙈 I’m too dumb to understand anything!

it is absolutely impossible to read this without being a little in too deep in the bangtan universe. and still I have a few problems with this.
it brings clarity to a lot of plot points in the hole HYYH story but it's still confusing and hard to follow. the characters and their stories kinda mesh together as there isn't a lot of work trying to make them people. the writing is interesting even if I feel like the main goal of this book is to give insight and not be a lot more than that.
it's kinda a bummer of a story and I really hope things start looking brighter because I am S A D now
