Always a fan of Maisie Dobbs, but this one was hard to read. It's about Maisie working through her grief over some previous events in her life and to me, she seemed very alone through the whole thing. Physically, yes, but more emotionally. I did not like that the author skimmed over 4 years of Maisie's life in a handful of pages, years that some huge life events occurred in. The story itself was okay, and I probably would have given it two stars, but she did such a good job walking Maisie through her pain, it gets 3 from me.

I’m sad for Maisie and her losses, but the shift will allow her to grow as a character.

The story dragged for way too long I'm afraid. The resolution was quite unsatisfactory and anticlimactic. Also this is yet another book where non-English characters use weird words and terms that I doubt they'd actually know if their knowledge of the language was limited.

This is only the second book I've read in this series, so I'm not sure what all has happened to the main character along the way. I enjoyed this book as a stand alone story.

I really like finishing things, but I think I'm just done with Maisie.
