The first 100 pages are slow, but from there in out it’s an absolute thrill ride reminiscent of old school grindhouse horror. Loved how it ended too!
Graphic: Gore, Murder, Blood, Death, Death of parent, Fire/Fire injury, Body horror, Injury/Injury detail, and Religious bigotry
Moderate: Car accident
Minor: Alcoholism and Alcohol

In the small town of Auchenmullan in the Scottish Highlands Maggie Wall was killed and buried as a witch. Hundreds of years later, the town has been abandoned by most of its inhabitants. It seems like nothing interesting ever happens in this forgotten town. But when a group of bored teenagers visit Maggie’s grave, they discover there’s something in town that she wants… and she is willing to kill for it.
Maggie’s Grave is an incredibly fun, cinematic experience, an action-packed supernatural slasher that is both heartwarming and gruesome. I quickly grew attached to the characters which I found exceptionally relatable, and I found myself rooting for them throughout the story. David Sodergren perfectly captured the isolated atmosphere of a small Scottish town and the complicated feelings their inhabitants harbor towards it. At the same time, he offers an exciting story with moments that made me laugh at loud, and others that made me squirm in shock!
I can’t write a review for this book without mentioning that it features one of the most beautifully terrifying antagonists I have encountered in a book…
