Written by a science journalist. Detailed without being too technical.

A non-fiction about book about how being a mom/parent modifies the brain of a person I can listen to while dealing with my kids that refuse to sleep through the night? Sign me up.
I really enjoyed some parts of this book, enjoyed learning about the research that has already been conducted in the field. The science was well researched. The author not being a neuroscientist might make this more approachable for the general public and I'm sure any parent will find this insightful. I personally would have been ok with more science in this one and maybe a bit less repetition into what research still hasn't been done. The narration was done by the author itself and I thought it made a fine listen.

Thank you Macmillan Audio for the ALC of this one.

Overall, I thought this book was well done, a journalist reporting on available neuroscience about parenthood while weaving in some of her own struggles. She often said where the science ended and speculation began. She’s also a Maine author!

It’s a nuanced topic. Her inclusiveness was appreciated but sometimes executed in a clunky way. I’m grateful this book exists and hope I get the chance to talk to an expert about it!

Very very informative and changed the way I thought about being a parent

Unorganized. Far too political. I do feel like the author spoke some great truths - particularly about bonding (or the lack thereof) from the outset and other great scientific nuggets but the rest negatively outweighed those aspects. Disappointing.

This was interesting, but through other books and articles, I had heard most of the major takeaways of the book. Would be a more interesting starting point book. Overall, I thought it was well-written with a good mix of science and anecdotes, objectivity and emotion.
