I stumbled across a song called "'Ndrangheta Allotment" by Meatraffle on Spotify (great song, you should listen to it). Several hours in the Google black hole later this book book was purchased and I was on my way.

I thought this was a fascinating look into a criminal organization that, until now, I knew very little about. I think things began to get a bit repetitive in the second half of the book, and different stylistic choices may have helped to keep me more engaged. The complex nature of the lives 'Ndrangheta women were forced to lead--and the courage they showed in turning State's evidence--is both heartbreaking and life-affirming at the same time. I can't begin to imagine what it must be like to grow up in such a regressive, crime-filled environment.

In any event, I wholeheartedly recommend this, particularly if you're fan of mob/mafia history.

Ooh this was good. Really enjoyed it, was completely unsurprised to see the film rights to it had been sold.

Favorite historical non fiction ever. Loved the way the storylines were developed and the writing style. Would read more from this author.

Read for school. It is a really interesting topic that I didn’t know much about going in. The last chapter seemed a bit all over the place but this was interesting!

"They were humiliated to be in front of so many women - to be judged by women, to them something less than a man." The women in this book were so brave and inspiring. Loved reading about their stories and triumphs.
