This book was emotionally intense, feminist, and gorgeous. It was my first book in October because i wanted it to set the energy for the month, and i chose well. It's about family and loss and grief and self-consciousness, but also about magic and internet relationships and botany. I heard great things about it, and really enjoyed it.

The beginning half of this book felt very YA to me and while it was very easy to read, the main character was very immature and didn’t give me enough of the witchy vibes I was looking for. The middle/romance portion was extremely cringey for my tastes to the point that I almost DNF’d it. The end is where we get the magic, but it’s very unbelievable. The main character’s magic seemed more like a vehicle for environmentalism and you may enjoy if this interests you. It really felt like three separate books, all of which left a lot to be desired for me.

Okay the synopsis makes this book sound romancey but I really think this is first and foremost a story about sisters, family, and the complicated relationships we have with the people we love. The audiobook narration was very good!
