Wow, I have to say I'm glad we're past the time when it was normal to describe people's body parts with words like "cacao". At least I'd hope that this author has learned since 2019 and we don't get that again. (Then again she does describe Kai as a ninja far too often in future books". Well, these kinds of things are just far too glaring when you're listening to an audiobook.

I did like a different perspective (Kai in this case), but I would have loved to be in in Kai's head with Tory there so we could see how he sees her. Missed opportunity :(

Overall this story was a bit boring. I didn't find Kai + the girl to be that interesting, the plot was kind of crazy and didn't make much sense, and any tension basically didn't exist long enough to matter.

I'm not usually a novella reader because, in my opinion, they don't really add anything to the story for me, or they just end up making me sad. But I actually enjoyed this one, it lets you learn more about Kai and Izzah (who we actually don't know all that much about.)

It was a fun addition to the world of The Guild Codex. I'm hoping that one of these days Kai and Aaron will both get a full spin off series of their own.

This novella has probably been my least favorite entry into the Guild Codex universe so far but even so, it is still an entertaining story that focuses on Kai as he finds himself working alongside a questionable woman from a competing guild. I love Kai as a character but something about this novella just didn’t work for me. Maybe the lack of the banter and brotherly nature that usually flows easily between our three mages since Aaron and Ezra are a little less present throughout this story? Still worth check out though.

I love the read a bit from his perspective and the way he met Issa.
Its cute and a great addition to the guild codex series.

Honestly the best so far. I wish this was more than just a novella. I can’t get enough of Kai, and now I’m in love with Izzah too.

Good back story, too much action for the size of the book. But enjoyed the character study.
