Had me twitching at work because of how good the book got during the middle. At first you get frustrated because of the constant shielding that Emma portrays but it gets so good and I am in love with Reed.

It was a sweet love story. And some
Parts were very well written in reference to the trauma that the FMC has been through. But the book as a whole just doesn’t want super well written. Some parts were choppy and left openings for more character development, others were just fade to black and then picked up somewhere else and as a read you were forced to get your bearings because a new scene started. But overall it was a good read

I only pushed through this book for my bookclub, if I hadn’t I probably would’ve dnfed it within the first chapter or first couple of chapters. The characters are not interesting, the plot isn’t good, the writing is okay, and this story could have been good. Emma needs A LOT of therapy not some weirdo love interest who doesn’t always respect her boundaries. I really didn’t like that too much info was shoved into the last five chapters of the book. This book was soooo slow and was over 500 pages for no reason. I think this story could have been good if it had been made into two books. One about Emma reuniting with her grandma and Nora, exploring Colby, getting her job at the bookshop, then meeting Reed. The next about how their love builds and all the crap worth Jarrod. Someone with PTSD would not have wanted to date a guy who triggered them constantly within the first week of meeting him especially with no therapy. I think this book could have been good had it been written differently.

Audio Review

This one wasn't too bad. It was quite an interesting and emotional story and the characters were so good. I especially loved Reed Ryan as he was such a caring person and super protective of his loved ones. He was also so patient with Emma, who clearly has a lot of trust issue with men.

Emma, on the other hand, annoyed me. I understand she had a very traumatic past and it's clear why she behaves in certain ways. However, she is clearly someone who struggles with trust and has dealt with a lot of sh*t and should've gone to therapy. The fact that she didn't seek out help or that it's not even mentioned in this book was shocking to me. It just felt like it was a god opportunity to have mental health / therapy rep.

Reed Ryan was honestly the reason why I kept listening.

Story of love

This book had me feeling so many different emotions that I felt like I was on a roller coaster. This is a story of true love! Reed knew immediately that he wanted Emma and he made sure that his patience would get him the girl. Emma had so many walls erected around herself that I wasn’t sure if she would ever be able to let them down but she did and Reed’s love helped her to heal and begin to trust. I loved this story so much.

It’s poorly written. I stopped caring  and being curious about the plot or characters.
