I'm in two minds about this book. I have read several of Glavinic's books before, and I always liked his way of telling the story and his use of the German language.
With this one however, I really had problems to enjoy my read. Although the plot was quite gripping, and I read it in one go, I really struggled with the report style writing which reminded me more of a school essay than anything else.
I did like the subtle media criticism and the original idea, however the style of writing (and the complete absence of paragraphs - where do you actually stop when you need a new cup of coffee??) was quite tiring for me...makes 3 stars altogether.

Das Buch war ziemlich langweilig, da es nicht aus der Sicht eines Detektives/Polizisten geschrieben ist, sondern aus der, scheinbar unschuldiger Menschen. Das war auch der Grund, weshalb mir klar war, dass er der Mörder ist. Er schreibt ja, dass er beauftragt wurde, alles aufzuschreiben. Die einzige logische Erklärung dafür wäre, dass es entweder er oder einer seiner Freunde war. Denn er wusste ja auch nur die Dinge, die sie im Radio brachten - jedenfalls ließ man uns in dem Glauben. Was sollte es also so Wichtiges geben, dass er uns davon erzählen würde? Während Heinrich voller Tatendrang war, den Täter zu finden und seine Lebensgefährtin in ständiger Angst, verhielt er sich eher ruhig und im Hintergrund. Auch redete er - verglichen mit den anderen Personen - eher wenig. Der Hauptgrund aber, der mich den Mörder enttarnen ließ, war die Tatsache, dass er gebeten wurde alles nieder zu schreiben.Zudem ist das ja ähnlich wie mit der Kamera - er will alles festhalten.
Und noch zum Buch/Stil im Allgemeinen: Dass es wie ein Report geschrieben war - er sollte es ja aufschreiben, verfolgte keine literarischen Ziele - gefiel mir gar nicht. Zwar verfügt der Autor über einen guten Wortschatz und weiß mit Worten umzugehen, ist ein Meister der genauen Beschreiben, aber trotzdem macht das allein ein Buch nicht spannend. Viel passiert ist ja nicht, bis auf den Mord, eigentlich kaum etwas. Besonders gestört hat mich auch, dass er so viel abgekürzt und Zahlen nicht ausgeschrieben hat, ich finde das gehört sich nicht in einem Buch und liest sich auch nicht schön. Besonders 'U.U.' war etwas zu viel des Guten.
Andere bewundern dieses Buch, weil das Ende so plötzlich kam, ich kann davon nicht berichten, da ich schon bald die Identität des Mörders kannte.
Das einzige, das ich wirklich daran mochte, war, dass das Ende kam wie erwartet und ich recht behalten hatte :-D

I had to read this book for my german class in school (Austria) and found it quite interesting, I made the mistake of reading the last sentence of the book after about 50 pages in. I don't really know how to describe it other than: different
I have never read a book like it, the language and characters were all "off" in some way. I don't know if that's because of the writing style or of how the writer made us presceive the whole event.
It's a great book and the style makes it special. Beware everything is very slow, simple things are described for pages and the characters are quiet unlikeable.
