Suck Less is a comedy book. Do not expect a lot of Drag Race tea or anything that provides insight into Willam's life. There is no vulnerability. Is the book fun, sure, but I am craving a bit of vulnerability from Willam. There is something more to this memorable diva than just dick and drug jokes. She has a great story behind her, and I want to read it. Alas, that is not this story.

I have both the Kindle and the audible version of Suck Less. I read both versions simultaneously. The best part of the book was listening to Willam joke around while reading the book and adding extras to the audible version. There are some burps and funny quips in the audio. Willam's descriptions of the pictures included in the physical book are hilarious. I could listen to this book again just for the delivery. Willam knows comedy.

Suck Less is divided into 37 sections about how to Suck Less At (X, Y, or Z). For example, how to suck less at throwing parties, revenge, or anal. Good tips are included, especially if you are interested in starting drag. Additionally, there is an excellent dragtionary, drag dictionary, at the end of the book.

Y’know how in the intro of Willam’s Beatdown he says “you’re doing that wrong”? This is basically a how-to on how to not do that wrong.

Willam’s unique voice and comedy permeates every word of this book, and you don’t even need the audiobook because if you’re even familiar with Willam in the slightest, his voice will be running through your head the e n t i r e time. Suck Less covers everything from drag queen etiquette through to sucking dick and career advice, all peppered with his unique brand of humour and beautiful images that are basically makeup and wig pr0n for drag enthusiasts.

Be warned though, Willam is nobody’s role model and take all the advice with a grain of salt. Don’t actually read it like a self-help book, just read it as Willam waxing lyrical on a bunch of random topics. Like he says: take his advice and do the opposite. Or you’ll end up raging for 3 hours about the problematic food/diet chapter and have to go scrub your brain.

Overall: It’s Willam. It’s problematic, it’s funny AF, the images are beautiful, the humour is on point as always, and it’s just a hella fun read. It’s a joke not a dick, don’t take it so hard.

I absolutely love Willam she's so funny and this being narrated by Willam made it even better (listened on Audible) a personal favourite was the suggestion of a party game called Scatagory where you shit on a twister mat and spin in it.

everytime he starts to come across as genuine and smart he has to write something to ruin it. comes off as an insecure chubby kid who deflects with aggressive sexualization and slightly misplaced humor.

i liked the bits where he talked about his own marriage, childhood, career advice. the rest is cheap laughs which are better suited to a youtube video.

hated the way he talked about food, so unhealthy and damaging

Willam is an amazing performer that I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a couple of times. He is a drag queen, actor, singer, and songwriter that has been in multiple different TV shows (reality, crime, etc)—just check out his IMDb page. He is known for his quick wit (although in the book, he admits that he’s just a dickhead and people think he’s joking), along with his top-notch drag technique that has been shown again and again on TV, VMA performances, and music videos. Willam has always been a fun person to speak with and I was so excited when I heard he was releasing a book.

In Suck Less, Willam gives tips on how to suck less at various things that he is good at. The sections range from everything between stripping to having a nice home to insulting someone effectively. He also includes a dragtionary that explains all of the drag lingo he uses throughout the book. The pages are filled with high quality photos of Willam as well, some of these demonstrating things like tucking and hair techniques.

Willam gives a lot of valuable advice in the 221 pages of Suck Less. For example, there’s a section about how to suck less at leaving the house. He says, “I always have a garbage bag with me in case someone I meet is ugly. It’s also good for when the weather is iffy and you don’t wanna tote around an umbrella”. It’s humor like this that has made Willam one of the most loved mainstream drag performers. On a more serious note, he gives some really cool tips about things like acne—I had no idea that using a pierced Advil Liqui-gel could make pimples disappear.

I love Willam’s writing because I could hear him reading it in his own voice. If you’ve ever heard him talk, even just one sentence, you’ll know what I mean when I say his voice is very unique. It was so much fun to hear Willam’s tone so well that it felt like he was actually saying all of these tips to me directly. Even if you don’t know much about Willam or gay culture in general, this is a really great book to get advice from a drag queen. ‘Cause, you know, drag queens do most things the best anyway.

I anticipated this book to be 5 stars, and it certainly was. Willam’s fans know to only expect the best of the best from him, and Suck Less lives up to that. I’m excited to see where Willam’s career takes him next because he truly seems capable of bringing his persona to all forms of art.

Admittedly, I don’t really watch RuPaul’s Drag Race, but I am an avid consumer of content from queens who have been on that show. Some of my favourites include Willam and Trixie Mattel. Now I don’t actively promote things that I find funny, because what I laugh at is genuinely very dry, observational, sometimes dark humour—I am Canadian after all. We’re used to making fun of ourselves and not taking anything too seriously. With all that in mind, please hear me when I say that I liked this book because it was hilarious.
Do not read this book if you can’t handle very unapologetic accounts of having an eating disorder, projected body dysmorphia/fat shaming, underage sex, prostitution, promiscuity, substance abuse, marital issues, etc. Basically any taboo subject you can think of, it would be in here. But it’s all addressed with a very “If you have a problem with it, that’s your problem,” kind of way. Despite the fact I really liked this biography, I know it isn’t for everyone. The people who will like it are the same people who laugh at dead baby jokes and the pegging scene in Deadpool.
I am that person.
My best advice if you don't know if this will be your cup of tea, is to go and look up Willam Belli on youtube, and watch some of the Willam’s Beatdown episodes, which basically consist of her making fun of videos on the internet. If you laugh at those, then yes, you should read Suck Less.
