In a fucked up way, I did love this book. Even if I didn’t always love the characters, I kind of know that wasn’t the intention and they all had so much personality, context, reasons for their actions and being. Tristan Caine isn’t a loveable, ideal book boyfriend and he’s not a character I like, honestly. The ending scene was incredible and just added depth. I’m ready to see what happens next, how he builds as a character. I really liked Morana in general, idk how she dealt with Caine and how their relationship actually started, he was only interested/showed interest over text lol. But I’m happy that she was powerful and stood her ground and a genius!!!

Very dark and only the POV of the FMC. That all being said, I found it very tense and mysterious in a good way. The unraveling of some of the mysteries was very interesting. This book doesn’t finish their love story, though, so if you like one off this isn’t one.

Dark Romance, Enemies to Lovers, Mafia, 3 3/4 🔥

It was pretty darn good. The tension, the spice, found family. The author did a great job giving both MC’s substance and background to be discovered. A true enemies to lovers

One day, I'm going to carve your heart out and keep it as a souvenir. I promise.

Huh that was very, VERY weird and in the truest sense of the word. Honestly, I've never been a fan of dark romance (or even romance books), but something clicked inside me and I thought maybe I should give it another chance after last time, after Brutal Prince. Well, whether it worked out or not, I honestly don't know.

Morana was a (oddly) very lovable female protagonist, full of qualities and personality traits that earned my love. Her anger, her passion, her sudden decisions, and her mistakes made her alive in a way I rarely see in books like this. Tristan was a tougher nut to crack for me, but at the end of the day, I can't say I hate him, not like I do with many other characters of this type, he wasn't too much, he wasn't as overprotective, he wasn't an alpha male I couldn't stand, in short, even he wasn't terrible. Dante and Amara stole my heart. They are my heart.

The love thread was quite fine, it didn't feel so forced, and I even feel a bit like this relationship between them is still very open and rudimentary. Either way, they are lovable in their own way and truly deserve each other.

I basically liked the plot, it wasn't much and it wasn't incomprehensible either, in a word, it was normal. I liked that the past and the investigation were in it, albeit in a subplot. I think the pace was set up well, although at times it felt either too fast or too slow, depending on what was happening. The ending was well concluded anyway, it gave a little spark to the sequel, but honestly, not enough for me to continue right now.

This author loves their repition to an excessive extent. The final chapter is basically just paragraph after paragraph of repeated sentences. Also, they mention "his eyes" and "her heart" over 200 times, I kept a tally cause I was curious.

Morana, the genius daughter of a Mafia lord, has created a super code that was stolen. Suspecting it was stolen by the elusive and lethal Tristan Caine, the only non -blood member in a rival Mafia family, Morana infiltrates his house intent on killing him and stealing back the code. But something bigger is going on and these two enemies must put their hate aside to fight it.

I am not a huge fan of 3rd POV.  I wish this had been in 1st and dual POV, it would have been so much more interesting.

Morana is apparently a genius. I guess this is a case of book smart but not street smart. Seeing as she is a "certified genius" and Mafia daughter, she sure makes some very poor decisions. We are meant to see her a strong and fierce, but she really isn't.

Tristan's backstory is extremely horrific and that explains why is is the way he is. It would break most people, but it just turned him deadly. This could have made for very interesting character development, sadly he was petty one dimensional and boring. My take away is that he has beautiful blue eyes and whisky voice, as we are told 10000x.

I thought the idea behind the plot, with the code, was interesting. But it quickly fell to the side as so many other things were introduced and made the plot super messy.
the missing girls, the impending Mafia war, the romance, escaping her father etc...

I did like Dante and Amara and am interested in their book!

Tropes: Mafia, enemies-to-lovers, dark romance
