Carrie?? did what??? WHAT

PT: Books that have been on my tbr for wayyy too long, acting/voices of actors, memoirs

WIL
1) acting is DIFFICULT and terrifying and demeaning! (again) (see Talking as Fast as I Can by lauren Graham for part 1)

2) unapologetically candid. *low whistle* impressive. Fisher's got a presence about her. She just says whatever she wants. It's pretty cool, I must say. (Cont on WIDL 2)

3)

WIDL
1) like most memoirs, this says a lot without really saying anything. I mean, it's entertaining enough, and it was nice to have the audiobook on in the background while I did other things, but it's not a book I'd really recommend to other people. It's just kinda there, yknow? If you need something to read, it's fine, but it's nothing stellar.

2) I smell NDAs. Some actor memoirs just feel heavily weighted by the invisible NDAs floating above each word, and boy is this one of them. Despite Fisher's attempt to be candid, there's still so much unsaid. The significant stuff of the industry and filming is largely brushed over, and it feels like the transparency in things like her Ford affair is a trick to distract from the actual opacity on everything else. Hmm.

3) Hamill got jipped. Mark was barely in this!!! What was that about!

NEUTRAL GROUND
1) Goodreads won't let me include my own image so you're gonna have to use your imagination here: description

was anyone gonna tell me that Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher had a "tryst" in the '70s, or was I just supposed to find that out in 2021, 5 years after Carrie's death myself? (Just picture the text on the image itself I'M SORRY I don't make the Goodreads rules.)

Brutally honest and heartfelt, Carrie Fisher’s exploration of her relationship with Harrison Ford as well as those with Princess Leia and herself were well written and easy to read. It did feel a bit rambling at times going back over what she had written in past chapters, but her writing style and guileless charm made me read it all in one sitting.

This isn't a bad book, don't think the three-star review shows that.

If anything this is a sad book. It's a sad pull-back-the-curtain to a woman that millions of people adored. It gave a glimpse of someone going through bi-polar (and not knowing it), having a doomed love-affair with someone many people came to adore. It gave a cinematic couple, Han and Leia, a different meaning and allowed me to rethink scenes between Harrison and Carrie.

I think this book needed to come out. I think that it puts to rest the much open-secret rumors about their affair but also shows that it was not something that was exactly cherished on both sides. I feel that it was nice to finally understand that both sides were at fault.

I also enjoyed that we finally get a look at Carrie's view of autographs, fandom and being world-renown.

The reason why I rate it down two stars is that it was rather short. I felt that there was more that went on instead of what took place during Episode 4. But then again, maybe that's all there is to know... and the rest is blissfully erased by Ford's strong weed dosage.

Nevertheless, the book was good, but be warned: your galactic couple gets either a heightened or lowered sense of enjoyment.

The excerpts from the journal she kept while filming, both prose and poetry, are incredible. Worth the read for that section alone, though her hindsight is also interesting.

I really love Carrie Fischer and miss her quirky way. I thought the journal entry portion of the book was very poetic- there really is no raw creative energy like the mind of a 20 year old woman.
