This was even worse than Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass. I'm only giving it one star because of the art.

Under the Moon: A Catwoman's Tale by Lauren Myracle was an intriguing piece. I had not read any origin stories around Catwoman prior to this, so I can't speak to how in line/different this is from previous iterations. However, I can speak to how this does a good job of exploring the "Why?" of a villain. This comic focuses on Catwoman's teen years. Said simply, she has to navigate a lot of "stuff" during this time and make some decisions on what she's going to do to help herself - and others, as well as where she's going to fight back. For a comic, this is heavy content. The obstacles and issues she encounters are a lot to process in this form - any form really. Plot aside, the illustrations are outstanding. They are so, so well done, and they perfectly give vision to the story. Overall, I wanted more. This is a quick read, but I wanted more depth and dissection to Selina's tale! There have been so many iterations of Catwoman, and it was so intriguing to read a spin on where her story (literally) began! Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to check out this origin story early!

I was so excited for this story, and I was immediately dissatisfied. Overall, the author dealt with important, worthy issues, and I liked that many important resources were shared at the end, but I didn't like the execution. And then it just ended ... without resolving anything I wanted resolved. And while I say important issues were addressed (e.g., domestic abuse, child abuse, trauma, animal abuse, self-harm, homelessness), I think the story failed to model the right thing to do for several of those issues.

Synopsis: When fourteen-year-old Selina Kyle, aka the future Catwoman, becomes homeless, she must confront questions of who she is and who she will become.
She rejects human cruelty, but sometimes it seems as though brute force is the only way to "win." And if Selina is to survive on the streets, she must be tough. Can she find her humanity and reconcile toughness with her desire for community ... and love?
Review: Oh my god guys this book was amazing! I loved the artwork and I loved the story. It was the perfect origin story for Catwoman and it wasn’t hard to sympathize with her at all. I really felt for Selina and I loved to see her develop. The character development was very amazing and I loved seeing it animated! The plot is also great, the story is written well, and the world building is fantastic.
However, I do wish that the relationship between Selene and Bruce was more developed as it wasn’t enough of a shock factor. Other than that, that’s my ONLY complaint! I’d read more books in this series by this author!
Verdict: Amazing. I definitely recommend.

This graphic novel gives a new perspective on the backstory of Selina Kyle (Catwoman). It reflects how she grows up in a home with an abusive stepfather until she runs away and finds a new group of friends. This story was well-written, and it was interesting to see it illustrated mainly in shades of blue. I would caution teenage readers that there are some difficult themes and language used in the book. It is an engaging read that offered greater depth to the backstories of the characters involved.

I received an e-ARC from the Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. Review can be found on *Milky Way of Books*
A graphic novel set in Gotham city inspired by Catwoman's origin story. There is a cameo appearance but mostly the graphic novel focuses on the ways Selina discovers her own power and how she evolves from an abused child to a strong young woman.
Trigger alert: abuse, animal killing

Such a great story if not very depressing and potentially triggering for some people. Loved all the characters and loved seeing this version of a younger Selina. The art work was beautiful (if not a bit bland because each page was all inked in one color) and I found I really enjoyed reading it. Super fast read and would probably read again in the future when I need a quick Catwoman fix.
