It's a cool concept but I'm not completely sold on its execution.

This was murder porn. I really, really did not need the violent assaults over and over again to understand that one character is a murderer and that the victim never deserves to die.

Three stars: readable but I had major qualms throughout.

I enjoyed the journalist on a hunt for justice; the concept of multiverse traveling and the mechanics involved (despite the obvious potholes); and the exploration of love and loss and what makes life meaningful. I would have edited the shit out of this book to get more character development and less... let's call it ~ambiance~. Some characters act completely outside of their stated motivations and backstories at the end, but I still wanted to know how it would end.

Some books just have such fantastic, fast paced plots that I have no want or ability to assess anything else about the writing. This is that. So fun, so well done, sci-fi elements are very approachable and the specific kind of multiverse is well established and explained without being clunky. Bravo! 4 stars because I could’ve done with more suspense (but the ending was rather inevitable ofc so i was reading bc i was invested)

This incredibly fast-paced book was a quick two-day read for me, and it was enjoyably gripping, if not a phenomenal piece of writing.

Everything about this book was executed well - the pacing, the writing style, the characters, the concept. It just wasn't groundbreaking to me. Once the multiverse concept was established, there weren't many other clever worldbuilding elements. The characters are distinct and interesting, but they also aren't surprising or nuanced. I enjoyed the POV shifts and the subtle way that some information vwad repeated in different ways by different characters.

This may not be a life-changing sci-fi thriller, but it's more than adequate as a quick, engaging read.

A fast read. The sci-fi part really got me, because it’s like a cozy murder and not all repercussions are explored.
The only diversity is in different class and the one black best friend -her family. Mental illness is alluded though not in discussed in-depth.
You don’t really need to focus on the sci-fi theory and there aren’t really any information dumps.

Great quote….
Zar spread her arms dramatically. “They blame you for making them feel something. And instead of dealing like a normal human being, they want to make you feel something back. Scared, angry, doesn’t matter. It’s a power thing. They all do it. Even the nice ones. Especially the nice ones... »
