Overall I enjoyed my time with Congo! But of the 3 Crichton books I've read (the others being Sphere and Jurassic Park) this one ranks last. The first half of the book is weighed down by a lot of jargon, technical explanations, and flaunting of research, which, while interesting to a point, really slows the plot to a crawl. By contrast, the second half, which takes place in the Congolese jungle, moves at a breakneck pace, perhaps too breakneck due to the sluggish opening.

But when you get right down to it, Congo is a classic Crichton read with functional prose, tech-speak, tense encounters, and a moral about humanity's soulless pursuit of the next competitive capitalistic edge.

I enjoyed this book, but I think I'm losing interest in Michael Crichton's books. He used to be my first or second favorite author, but after the last few years I've found more books with complex plots that I prefer to the fairly simple ones that Crichton does. I still enjoy his writing and love the science he weaves into his stories.

Good story and fast paced. Of all the characters, Amy the gorilla definitely stole the show. If you are looking for deep rich characters don't look here.

Was good, but moves slow until you get into the jungle. I like how Crichton tells the story as if he is researching the people and as if this was a real story. Much better than the film if you are wondering.
