FULL SERIES REVIEW

I've had the first book of this series saved for MONTHS. I was always slightly interested in it, but I was a little weary to read it because I read Tears of Tess and didn't care for it much, so I didn't have high hopes for this series. I was VERY wrong.

This series makes you feel every emotion you can possibly think of. There were nights I had to force myself to put the book down because I couldn't even read the words due to blurred vision, but my mind never left the story. I would wake up in the middle of the night and my first thought would go to Jet and Nila. First thing in the morning when I woke up, I got coffee and opened up the next book.

This is not a series for the feint of heart. There's more hurt, pain, and anxiety than happiness, but it's 1000% worth it. I never thought I would find a series that could compete, in my mind, to The Dark Duet series, but this one has done just that, and perhaps even surpassed it.

Now that it's over I feel kind of lost. I may have to take a break from reading all together for a few days so that I can process everything that happened. I hope HBO picks it up as a tv series one day because it would be PERFECT for that. Then I would get to experience it all over again!

If you love very dark romances, this gets my highest recommendation.

This half of the series was definitely not as strong as the first. I feel like I should have stopped after book 2 or book 3.

Also, there's some suuuuuuper problematic stuff while they're at the mines in Africa. Sweeping statements about "Africa" as if an entire enormous continent is just one place with one culture, exoticization/fetishization of the locals... you know, your basic white western BS.
