I've wanted to delve into the Star Trek TNG book universe for many years now, having been a fan of the series and movies for a longer period. While this was an interesting experience, I feel like the author took creative license a bit too far and made some of these beloved characters do things that are, well, uncharacteristic. Example 1: I don’t believe for one moment that Dr. Crusher and Counsellor Troi would vote to kill people; and example 2: Picard and Riker are not verbally abusive. It's not a problem for a book to be slow-paced, but it's desirable for even the slow-paced moments to have either enjoyable filler, side-stories, or plot-important details instead of insipid specifics. Lastly, I wanted more paranormal than what was provided. The beginning and ending are fitting and bring everything full circle, but it's most of what's in between that brought the rating down for me. 2 stars.
Minor: Cursing
Contains sensory depravation.
