This book was definitely a step up from the first one, though I did enjoy both. This book had me always wondering what was going to happen next, even if I knew it was just going to inevitably end in failure (as it always does in books). I liked having more of a focus on Marcellus, but I did miss Chatine and was kind of sad that she was just put on the back burner for this book. She barely does anything apart from in the very beginning, but oh well. I know that she should be more prevalent in the third.
Overall, the action in this book was great and I’m glad there wasn’t… quite as much love triangle stuff going on, but it’s definitely still there. I still enjoyed it thoroughly and am ready to read the third and final book to see what happens!

This is one of the best sequels that I have ever read.

Before I dive into my thoughts on this book, I want to recommend that if you want to read this series, PLEASE read it via the audiobook! The audiobook has a narrator for each perspective in the book and they do an amazing job bringing this story to life. Anyway, back to the review!

I absolutely love this book from beginning to end. The authors did an amazing job expanding the world of this book and tying so many plot points and characters together. I also really appreciate that there was a full overview of the first book at the beginning of this one which I desperately needed. There is a lot that occurs in the first book and I was hoping that I wouldn't have to reread it in order to get to this one. And I didn't! (NOTE: The narrators do NOT read this section of the book, it is only in the physical (and probably ebook) copy of the book.)

Overall, I love this sequel more than I did the first book. It is quickly becoming a new favorite series of mine and I am so so eager for the third installment coming out later this year, I need it!! I would highly recommend this book to those who are looking for a new sci-fi series to dive into and get super attached to. Please read this, this series is so underhyped!
