I have been trying to read the original text of Frankenstein for the past two weeks, I am so grateful to this graphic novel for getting me passed the long winded descriptions and older language.

Spectacularly creepy illustrations!

This is sort of if Frankenstein were Emo. The illustrations are captivating, and all in all it's a really well done version of Frankenstein.

At first I thought this was simply an illustrated novel, not really a graphic novel, in that it was seemingly just illustrations next to the text. But in the second section, he uses the medium very effectively to convey the creature's growth.

His illustrations are superb, and incorporate their own allusions to the modern world, set beside the somewhat archaic text of Shelley. Overall, a really outstanding book that has made me go back to the original in order to revisit what I first read many years ago.

(Update after re-reading the original novel: Grimly did an outstanding job of selecting what to include in this book, and what to leave out.)

I absolutely love the art style of this graphic novel. It's completely different from any other illustrations for this story and I think it flowed perfectly with the original story written by Mary Shelley. I would recommend this to any classic horror lover.

There was no way I wasn't going to love this. It's Frankenstein. Frankenstein with pictures.

This graphic novel has everything that I loved about the book when I first read it. The mixed media element of Walton's letters was lovely however I did struggle at times to puzzle out the font. It added to the effect but made it difficult to read. Without having already read Frankenstein in it's entirety I probably would've had a bit of an issue with that.

Gris' illustration fit perfectly with the tone of Frankenstein whilst still adding a modern and alternative twist. Elizabeth's hair was certainly interesting to say the least.

If you've been wanting to read Frankenstein but the thought of the novel is a bit daunting this is an excellent place to start. Or, if like me you're a massive fan of the book it's a great way to re-read this one too!
