Re-read on audio. Laurence is so angry and stressed this entire book.

This one got a little tedious in places, especially their travels from China to Turkey and then up through Prussia. That said, I really enjoy the series, so it was still fun traveling with Will and Temeraire.

The battles are really emotionally draining, but the ongoing discussion between Laurence and Temeraire about duty v. justice and the treatment of dragons is very good.

A dragon must learn to run away when it is necessary. A rider must learn to understand the ower of true partnership with his dragon.

Feral dragons! An off-hand reference to Marco Polo and the Silk Road! Being held captive in Istanbul and sneaking through underground cisterns! Military history with detailed strategy plus of course dragons! Spies?! Plotters?! The most perfect and hilarious explanation for the secrecy of the harem!! Imagining the tiny hatchling yelling while riding around on a bewildered, terrified cow!!

A little bit ridiculous but that's another reason why I love it. Third in the series, definitely more action than the second, and just as good for chuckles and groans as the first one. Excellent audio book narration, although the Prussians accent is a little bit strange to me. (But who knows, I'm no expert on Prussia.)

A bit too much politics and war strategy for my liking.
