Definitely enjoyed the pace and character / plot development in this one. Did the tandem read with tower of dawn and no regrets with it.

In addition to continuous world building and stunning attention to detail, This book touched on so many themes that just struck admiration in me.
 -Found family
-Romance despite chaos
-Betrayal and loss
-Doing the right thing, even if everyone else thinks you’re wrong
-Life debts
-Soul mates
-Puzzle/Mystery
-Connecting old plots to new one
-Enemies to Lovers/Pretending to Date

Aelin’s power and plans never fail to amaze us. She continues to be the mastermind and the driving force behind the plot (though we do get many other POVs this book!). We get to know other characters on a deeper level, as their stories start to collide with the main one.

This book has many turns that keep you on your toes the whole time, while still finding those more peaceful moments to allow you to fall in love.

This book ends on a cliff hanger, but I already have the last book in the library so LETS GO TO WAR!

Gods be damned, this book absolutely broke me. The beginning felt like I was wading through murky waters, lost in a sea of information and even being mislead as a reader from certain plots until the very end. Very well written, and that ending is and ending I will not forget any time soon. Aelin’s sacrifices, her plots, so much she kept hidden from her loved ones and ourselves as readers. A truly unreliable narrator. The truths revealed in the end truly cleaves me open into devastation. Everything absolutely ties together neatly like a perfectly destructive blow to your already hopeful heart. The only thing that continues my hope is the path these characters are taking into setting things right. A beautiful read.

If I read the word ‘rutting’ one more time, I swear I’ll vomit my guts up. Also, this book could have been way shorter, except for its brutal cliffhanger ending - did I just read the equivalent of a filler episode? Also, Elide and Lorcan’s little side quest became the only thing pulling me through. Too much fighting sequences in one go, maybe? I might need a break before moving on to the next book in the series.
