Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of “A Very Typical Family” in exchange for an honest review. I absolutely loved this book. The plot was so well paced, and I loved the ending. From the protagonist to her pet each character was well developed. I felt invested in the characters’ lives. While the main conflict in the novel drove it forward, I felt like I was also invested in the portrait or an imperfect family. This is one of those books that you will find yourself thinking about later and wondering what the characters are up to now. Lovely.

Except for the fact that the main character is not the reason her brother and sister went to prison.

It's not the most complicated or stirring thing to read. But damn I was invested and I stayed till the end. I'd call it a beach read.

Audio book reader was alright, but I didn't like her "male" voice all too much.

Read for the Big Library Read.

3.7 stars rounded. This was very delightful! I wouldn’t say this had dark humor and was a fairly mild book. All the big events were pretty mild imo but the characters and storyline was pleasant. I was rooting for a happy ending the entire time and enjoyed seeing the ending come together. Personally, all the asshole characters should have gotten their ass chewed out and were given an easy way out. If they were treated how they should have been, this could have been a five.

Predictable but a nice change of pace for a story line.

Their treatment of Natalie about the ‘incident’ is appalling and I cannot read any more of their misguided and closed-minded opinions.

i think i thought this book would veer a bit more into thriller and mystery than it did. it was cute - the main character could get a bit annoying and slightly whiny but not in a way that made it unreadable. i think i wanted more tension between them all…. i think i wanted a powder keg goes boom moment but it never really came. i can’t imagine not speaking to my brothers for that long and us just seamlessly falling into place but idk. it was very sweet i love a journey home story !
