Just like in book #7, Burned, nothing much really happened in Awakened.
Some arcs ended in this book and not all were satisfying. One villain, after three books, still hasn't been dealt with. His arc is dragging so hard the bumper is hitting the road. One semi-villain went a predictable route and got turned into a real boy. Another character died before she ever got to have a personality, which made her death fall flat. And the big bad herself is on the verge of coming across as petty and shallow when she's supposed to be evil, malicious, and clever. She really needs to stop acting like a teenager. Which I'd have hope for if these writers could write characters that aren't teenage stereotypes. But as it is . . .
Anyway, I'm tired of the accents being written out. It makes so much dialogue difficult to read, which is incredibly distracting and annoying. This goes for the speech patterns of Stevie Rae and Kramisha especially.
I swear, I'd give these books higher ratings if the writing was better.

It’s very bad. Like really really really bad. It has so many hurtful stereotypes and phrases.
The characters are so dumb. They are served informations on silver plates and still they act and think like they know shit. Like Sgiach explicitly told Zoey *something* and one day later she told her the same thing yet Zoey was, for some reason, very surprised at that information. I wouldn’t trust Zoey with saving the world. There’s no way.
Some of the adults are hundreds of years old and yet they talk like 16-years-olds. Just no.
What I hate with passion about this book is that everyone is so horny it hurts. Everyone is always thinking about sex and related things. And I wouldn’t mind that much were it only the teenagers but the adults are the same. The adults act like those gross couples who can’t keep their hands for themselves when they are near. Oh, and everyone magically know when someone had sex. I don’t think that that’s how it works. (I’m very afraid what I’m gonna find in the next books. I fear that Neferet’s gonna be fcking the white bull, honestly I wouldn’t even be surprised at this point.I’m never getting the image of her pleasure after the bull licked her out of my head. )
The cast is surprisingly diverse for a book written in 2011. But the problem is that they are portrayed stereotypically and harmfully. And the other characters treat them very badly. For example, I don’t think most of the characters are homophobic but they use homophobic slurs etc. But this was very common at the time so I don’t know. Still doesn’t sit with me though.
But hey, it’s nostalgia and I want to know what happens in the next books so that keeps me going.
