A group of college friends that are now in their thirties decide to celebrate the New Year’s in an exclusive distant cabin in the UK. A blizzard hits and a person in the group goes missing and the caregivers must decide who could have done it.
If you enjoy locked room Murder mysteries especially with a group of friends, this is a book for you.

Rating: 3/5– the lowest end of “I liked it”

Well, as predicted in my updates while reading, I figured out whodunnit quite literally ON PAGE 5. And throughout the book there were just SO MANY massive red herrings alongside little hints to it being this person, and since I'd already clued into them, I caught pretty much every single one.

I also figured out several of the twists in advance. There were only a couple that I didn't see coming or had an incorrect theory about. I'm not sure if I've just read too many books like this, or just have a good sense for twists, or if Foley was truly too heavyhanded with the foreshadowing.

Since I read An Unwanted Guest last week, I find it difficult not to compare the two books. I think that although the characters were more distinct in UG, I did definitely prefer the dynamic between these characters. Fraught pasts, fraying bonds, and barely concealed passive aggression are much more interesting to me than a bunch of strangers who only know maybe 1 or 2 other characters.

Overall, I'll think about the rating a bit more, but it's probably 3/5.

A novel of great twists and turns in true Lucy style! Just about the time I want to put it down and move on, I’m hooked and need to know what happens and who did it!

What a miserable meandering excuse for a book. It was an interesting premise: a tale of friendships strained and broken in isolation as the mystery of a murder shrouds them, especially when surrounded by creepy strangers. This, however, quickly devolved into plodding diatribes by rich British people who were, collectively, the most immature people I've ever had the displeasure to read about. Somehow every single problem seemed trite at best, contrived at worst, and good Lord do people not regularly talk to their significant others???

I was also put off by the amount of random sex. It seemed like whenever the book got too "boring", the author would randomly put in a sex scene or an allusion to it that served no purpose other than to get you back into the book, a sort of shock value not displayed for other things like the characters getting shot at the end. Also... really? That's who you made the villain?

The first time I've put an audiobook higher than 1.0x just to finish with it sooner. Bravo for that achievement. Cannot recommend in any capacity.
