(My review is for the series as a whole.)

The world building, the storytelling, how Smythe deals with trauma and the characters healing 👏🏾

I started reading in 2020 so it’s hard to sum up something that’s been running for so long but my favorite parts:
  • Persephone’s arc; gaining confidence in herself, owning her mistakes, healing from her past, growing into a brave woman and (sometimes wrath-filled) queen.
  • Their relationship; the pining and slow burn with a big payoff.  (The age gap is uncomfortable, she’s 19 vs he’s like as old as time but the characters address it and it’s fantasy so you let it slide). There’s a lot of trust, respect and care in their relationship and it’s nice to see it grow.
  • All the artwork is really pretty!
  • Apollo and Kronos getting exactly what they deserve as terrible, violent beings.

I’d read it again in a heartbeat and wish I could start it over.
Very well done and it’s bittersweet to see it end.

I love the series, so I enjoyed this book, but it wasn't the best installment. The pacing was kind of off, especially in the first half, and some of the big moments fell a bit flat, notably
the kiss which was very meh in my opinion. I don't particularly appreciate when these moments come from a negative emotion, and I think it's way better when it expresses the tenderness two characters feel for one another, like the scene where Persephone calls on Hades to help her sleep. This was PEAK.
I'm still excited to see what's next and will start the next book very quickly!

A bit confused as to why Persephone has just up and at 'em left, but I feel like that's just going to make the next volume that much more excited!! I love that the characters are all ganging up together to look for Persephone in their respective crew (even if for separate reasons). Excited for volume six!!!

The narrative diverges a lot bit from the bigger picture, but this edition helps us go deeper into the plans of the side characters come into fruition, and to see how the relationship between Hades and Persephone is continuing to deepen.
