I feel like we lost some steam. This seemed to be made mostly of side quests before leading to the final big battle. Though I continue to enjoy Gaither’s writing, and I can’t imagine storyboarding four books, just wasn’t like the first three!

With book 3 and 4 feeling a bit like a filler for the plot and focusing more on the politics and relationships, I feel like book 5 made up for the slower progress in the previous books. I really didn't want this to be the end and therefore kind of pushed back reading the last 150 pages, but ultimately I had to, just like Casia had to face the final battle in this book to start a new chapter. I can't wait to read the author's upcoming stories and hope I will get to love their new characters just like I did with Casia, Elander and her friends.
It's not just a fantasy story but also a life advice; there is always going to be light in darkness.

I tried, I really did! I wanted to love this series and parts of it are fantastic but honestly this book just felt SOOO REPETITIVE! Battle gods do something el and cas do it, battle gods do something etc etc. I just don’t have the time to read something I am not enjoying.
