I loved the premise. I haven't seen many books about characters involved in the filming of a reality show (with the exception of Carolyn Parkhurst's Lost and Found so if you know of any, tell me!). So when I saw that Taste Test was about teens competing in a cooking-based reality show and had a nice mix of competition and romance, I was sold. I really liked reading about the friendships and rivalries that went on behind the scenes from the show. I also really liked reading each character's motivations for being there and competing (for some, it was not about the cash prize at the end).

If you're looking for a story that combines backstabbing, romance, and food, this is your book. I did feel like the relationships and rivalries drove the story rather than the food competition, but it was a really fun read and perfect for fans of Top Chef or Chopped.

Entertaining, adorable, funny, quick, and heartfelt...absolutely fabulous, my ideal beach read (and can i just say, REPRESENT NORTH CAROLINA HOMEGIRL...even though Weston doesnt exist, Nora totally represents the strong, family-lovin, bbq-eatin nc gals extremely well!) ;)

Taste Test by Kelly Fiore follows Nora the small town daughter of a BBQ restaurant as she becomes a contestant in the high school cooking reality show Taste Test. The competition isn't the only challenge in Nora's life. She also has to deal with the cocky and wealthy son of a famous chef that's her biggest competition on the show and possibly for her heart and she also has to solve the mystery of who has been sabotaging the competition by causing major accidents in the kitchen.

I loved this book, it has everything that a young teen wants in a romance. It's got a bit of mystery, a romance that burns slowly and a confident heroine who works hard so that she can accomplish her goals. The cooking segments were fun to read and sounded delicious and the reality TV portion although not super realistic added to the fun of the book.

Appropriateness: There's no adult content in this book. The mystery involves contestants being harmed but there's nothing violent or scary. The romance is sweet and fun and consists of nothing more than kissing (if your kid can get past the cover then they'll be fine with the romance). I would recommend this book to readers 11-15

I had read Just Like the Movies recently and like the story line so I figured that I would give this book a shot as well. I really enjoyed this, I am a very big fan of Fiore's writing style. Nora Henderson is a very relate-able character going through real problems that other people are going through too. This book was light with a surprising twist. I also liked how in between the chapters she inserted interviews and questionnaires. It made the book seem more like I was watching a show this way.

This is such a cute book! I really liked Nora and Gigi
Spoiler even with what she did
and I gradually started liking Christian too. The ending made me super happy and I'm glad it ended this way.
Billy and Judd, her dad, were great characters, and even though they didn't appear a lot, I really liked them.
I really liked the concept, because even though there are a lot of cooking shows, I haven't read a lot of cooking books... Also, the recipes at the end of the book are a cute detail and I bet they're totally worth trying.
I recommend this book to everyone :)

The book sounds like cute and frothy fun, but the mystery subplot was poorly done and its plot holes made the book less than terrific.

Really cute, fun story. The cooking part was right out of Top Chef and the romance was flutter in the tummy inducing. I was completely enchanted and it was just what I needed. Really looking forward to the author's next book.

I think that there might have been just too much going on with this one ultimately, but it was still fun to read especially with reality cooking shows on a popularity rise right now. I wish the romance had been a bit better developed and a little more spicy.
