I didn't actually finish this book. It's the first Discworld novel I don't finish. I do have a habit of dropping whatever book I don't enjoy, but to do it to a discworld book ? Certainly a first. I had to say all this to show how disinterested (not disliked ) I was. This was one of the few times Pratchett used adult language in Discworld books while having young adult characters and adventures. I felt it a bit unfamiliar, or a bit unlike Pratchett's style. It tipped the book of balance. For me at least. I have moved on and started the next discworld book I found: The Truth. Hope it's better

Incredibly quick read at barely over 35,000 words, Eric can be finished in an afternoon. This feels like Pratchett distilled. The humor and thoughtfulness is here, but the length feels a touch unsatisfying.
A follow-up to Sorcery, Eric picks up Rincewind and his Luggage's adventures across space and time. The Rincewind novels are feeling more and more like fantasy satire, while the rest of the series are starting to take the subject matter (relatively) seriously.
Still a great read, just wish there was a bit more.

- “The gods of the Disc have never bothered much about judging the souls of the dead, and so people only go to hell if that's where they believe, in their deepest heart, that they deserve to go. Which they won't do if they don't know about it. This explains why it is so important to shoot missionaries on sight.”

4.5 stars. It was short and a load of fun, and Rincewind is possibly my favorite Discworld character. Lots of ridiculousness and silly wordplay.

I liked this one more than I thought I would! I mean who would think that a satirical tale on the retelling of the tale of Faust would be a compelling read? Especially when the demon is swapped with the most incompetent wizard on the Disc and the Faust in this story is a 13-year-old pre-pubescent child prone to saying "Avaunt"! Hilarity ensues across time and space when Rince wind is summoned, with The Luggage in close pursuit. Even the minor characters are full of life. The parrot with the limited wossname, words thingy, so it keeps on saying wossname again and again! 3 wishes are asked, 3 wishes are granted but the intent is to grant them in a way that is right technically but still cause the wisher a lot of pain. But in a surprising twist, the book ends on a very happy note! With the offending as well as offended parties all happy!
Don't skip this book with Rincewind!
