I absolutely loved everything about this book. First off, I love that the author mentions some trigger warnings within the "A Word From The Author" page. I feel like more authors should be adding warnings listed somewhere before the book starts or on the book. There were no points to where I got bored, everything kept me fairly hooked. I also really enjoyed the writing of the author and the beautiful descriptions that she uses. This was one of the most creative books done so well that I've read in a while.

Broken people looking for healing in various ways.

1. The Garden is a strange character. I felt like it was evil from start to finish, even after the reveal
2. What the blank was going on at William's cousin's house??? No wonder he was so awful.
3. Sad that the trailer didn't collapse on Earl's warped head

For me, the writing was slow and repetitive. And the story itself seemed somewhat thin, even given the serious subject matter. I love magical realism but in this case, the descriptions and incorporation of it seemed to become filler/fluff, until the imagery closer to the end of the book which was quite impactful. The entire story could have been told in half the time—not that a shorter read is better, necessarily—but I was noticing the page numbers passing going “why is this so long.” I guess for me, instead of the magical element elevating the story it felt very forced at times and detracted from the stronger dynamics going on with main character, her family, and the other people around them.
