Nearly DNF! This had such a great premise. I liked the beginning of the story, however, the body consisted mainly of inner dialogue, until finally we got to the last 20% when there was finally some story progression. Annoying to say the least.

Once Bitten is the first book I’ve read from author Heather McCorkle and I’m really glad I decided to read this book from her. So what drew me to read this book? First it was the cover because it definitely caught my eye and I always enjoy books that have eye candy on them. 🙂 They look great on my bookshelves, so everyone can stare at them.
Overall, I give this 3.5 stars and look forward to reading way more books from Heather McCorkle and more on the Wolves of Hemlock Hollow. If you’re looking for a book with werewolves (some hot Icelandic talking ones that look like sexy Vikings) I definitely recommend this book.

I loved it! It's an amazing read. It has been quite some time since I read paranormal romance and I'm glad that I read this one. It's book one in what looks like a promising new series. Characters are all well-written, story is engaging, and there are enough twists and turns to keep it interesting from the very beginning until the end. There is also some mystery around main characters.
When Sonya's one mistake lead to her becoming a werewolf, she has no idea what to do. Somehow Ty ends up to be the one to help her through her change. She is wary of him. She doesn't think that she can trust anyone in this new world, which has been unknown to her until now. But soon she realizes that Ty is exactly who he says he is... and the attraction between them is unmistakable. But will she even survive this ordeal to think about her future.
Ty has never helped a new werewolf before so there are a lot of things he doesn't know. He is trying his best to help Sonya. One thing is clear to him, there is no way he will ever let anyone hurt her. He will protect her and be there for her as long as she will have him. Even after her change he'd still wants to be with her. Now they only need to stay alive, and make to until after she changes.... but what they don't know is that things will get even more complicated then they're anticipating...
It's an intriguing story. I think it's brilliantly written. There was no dragging, it flowed smoothly, there was enough romance, adventure, and mystery to make it perfect. I think all paranormal readers will love this book.

Heather McCorkle has written an intriguing werewolf tale filled with myth, legend and a hunky Norse viking. Visions of Alexander Skarsgard abounded while I read this story.
Despite a slow start, I grew to like both Ty and Sonya as I read the story. Ty is simply gorgeous and it was so easy picturing him in my mind's eye. Ms McCorkle did an amazing job of bringing him to life for me. I loved that he was patient with Sonya, putting her education and well being before his desires. It's also sexy as heck to have a hero who's not only completely alpha and kickass but also scholarly and intelligent.
Sonya is an intriguing character. Being turned into a werewolf unwillingly, she had her choice taken from her. Ms McCorkle touches on the topic of choice and the ability of a woman to say "yes" or "no" in certain situations of power and dominance with great skill. She clearly highlighted the issue without getting on a soapbox. Well done. Aside from that, Sonya is a fighter, albeit with some anger management issues. There is a lot of mystery surrounding Sonya and why she was turned into a werewolf, why so many people seem to want her for their nefarious yet unknown reasons. In spite of it all, Sonya manages to overcome the changes being forced upon her and thrives. She may not have come to being a werewolf willingly but she accepts her fate and does her best to adapt to the changes she is undergoing.
The attraction between Ty and Sonya is a slow burn. A very slow burn. Not wanting to overstep the bounds of the teacher/student relationship they have, Ty resists. Not trusting herself and not one easy to trust a strange man, Sonya resists. To be honest, all that resisting made my teeth ache. I just wanted them to get over with the resisting and get to bonking the heck out of each other like they so obviously wanted to.
I enjoyed the Icelandic scattered within the story since my best friend is Icelandic. I even messaged him the words used to ask him what they meant and if they were indeed Icelandic. Ms McCorkle did a great job of building up the myth and legend around the werewolves and their origins, associated religion and links to Odin and Fenrir. Being someone who enjoys mythology a great deal, I think Ms Corkle dis a great job of the world building and the mythology surrounding the werewolves.
My only complaint is that the writing was a little stilted in the first half of the story and the pacing was a bit slow. Most of the story was set around Ty teaching Sonya what it means to be a werewolf and while that was important to the story and the world building, there were points when I thought it lagged a bit. I did appreciate all the face time Ty and Sonya had together though. I do enjoy a romance where the hero and heroine spend a large part of the time in the story together.
The world Ms McCorkle has built intrigues me. I think I will try the next book in the series if there is one.

I was granted a copy of this book from Entangled Publishing LLC through Netgally for my honest review.
This paranormal romance delivered everything I wanted. With well-written characters, a great mix of romance and mythology, and wonderful twists and turns. As a sucker for all things Viking and werewolf Heater McCorkle definitely pulled me in. I cannot wait to read the rest of The Wolves of Hemlock Hollow series.
