"Death had already come, but there was nothing left on the bones to pick."
The fact that Peter May had the idea for Lockdown long before COVID-19 hit is exactly what had me picking it up when I found it in The Works.
In saying that, I found it a hard read. It was slow at points I wanted it be faster, and too fast at the points I wanted it to be a little slower.
There was a predictability throughout that I had to wonder if it was intentional. Of course, there was one twist that had me gasping on the train when I read it back in June (this is a late review, many apologises for that.)
I kinda guessed from the first few chapters that this wasn't an open and shut case of a realistic coming about of a virus but still, a very cool read after having just gone through a global pandemic.

Lockdown by Peter May had me totally immersed. I loved the murder mystery, the characters were interesting even though flawed and the flu/lockdown story brings an extra touch to my experience seeing the situation we’re in.
Also I loved the writing, it was like I was expecting something bad to happen any minute.
The only thing I’m having my doubts about is the translation (I’m reading in Dutch). A couple of times I frowned, not sure if the author was being hazy (if that’s the right word) or the translation was off, probably both. Pinkie’s actions at the end were too far fetched, so yeah, had to roll my eyes, but on the whole I really liked this read!
