I always prefer a linear timeline. So many books go back and forth, and it takes an extra measure of concentration to keep everything straight. So I liked this book right off the bat because it went from point A to point B without any back and forth in between.

I liked the relationships Ben developed along the way, though I was sorry that so many submitted to Barlow. I liked the ending, knowing that there are always going to be (fictionally, anyway) people who take up the mantle to wage war against evil on my behalf.

That said, I wish evil hadn't been personified by an Eastern European. Felt like a metaphor for the chaos brought on by xenophobia (i.e., "They're eating the dogs. They're eating the cats." - if you haven't heard this one, Google this quote and it should be self-evident.)

i continue to stand by my thoughts on King: the man can sure write a scary scene, but he is long-winded af.
and the over-sexualization of any feminine characters is 🤢

I was really excited to read this book. I kept it for the spooky season specifically. This was not my frist Stephen King book but unfortunately I struggle a lot with it. The pace is really slow and the description way too long that I lost focus. I never seen a book with this many characters. It was interesting to see the impact of the story on the whole town but sometimes it was just too much. I had to keep check my note to understood who was who and related to whom... Overall the story is good but I never actually wanted to pick it up.

Stephen King  is a wonderful story teller - he can be very drawn out and descriptive which can be annoying for some but it honestly helps the imagery formed in your head. Reading his books is like watching a movie - I can clearly immerse myself in his world (for better or worse). Ben Mears was a bit of a flat character in comparison to the others around him but I can over look that. Looking gears to reading more of Mr. King’s works!
