Grabbed this from my work book swap to try to read more poetry and I feel like I took psychic damage from reading this. These poems all read like first drafts from high schoolers in an intro to creative writing class who are deep in the trenches of teenage heartbreak. The line and stanza breaks don’t inform the works much at all, repetition is used at times on purpose and other times because it seems like neither poet can come up with another word for “love” or “broken”, and it seems like every poem in the back half are about shitty relationships, which while relatable for many, feels more like listening to your drunk friend whine than a poem. Overall, a collection of surface-level and unimaginative poems about heartbreak and… well that’s most of them.

I love Drake and Sin, but this poetry collection did not really flow well together and it was excessively wordy sometimes.

I was disappointed. I’ve enjoyed individual pieces and even one other collaborative piece from these two, so I was expecting to connect with this as well.

Unfortunately this was extremely repetitive, and not in a way that serves a purpose. While some of the works were pretty to hear, I personally felt a lot of the material was too general. It was as if I was reading someone writing poems about someone else’s experiences. What was meant to feel personal and emotive just missed the mark for me at most time.

There’s definitely some works that stood out. I see this as more of a take on modern relationship poetry cranking out lines for captions and tattoos.

Initially, I did like the poems and the thoughts and the ideologies or whatever behind them. Some of the starting ones were some of the best contemporary poems I have read till now. But later, the author went back to his way of poetry where he just tells the girl that he's waiting for her and that she's with the wrong guy. And it keeps going on and on and on.
