All the praise to Greta Thunberg for being a brilliant and powerful speech writer. She knows how to capture the audience, make them think, make them feel guilty and make them want to change.

My lower rating is simply for the editorial aspect. A lot of these speeches repeated themselves, which I have no issue with when it comes to actual speeches, but I don’t need to keep reading the exact same wording in two or three consecutive speeches. As a reader, the repetition got a little bit dull. Whoever commissioned this book could have selected a larger range of speeches or even just small snippets from the speeches included to omit that repetition.

i read this for a book challenge to fill the "a book about the environment" prompt because it was short. i would say maybe 3.5 not for the message/content of the speeches but because it is basically the same thing 10 times.

Greta Thunberg is such an iconic young activist, and I think reading her speeches is just as impactful as watching her make them. Sure, they’re pretty repetitive and make the same point several times, but that’s the point - she has to repeat herself over and over because those in power literally refuse to listen! The collection does make one feel a bit hopeless as a person with little power to stop carbon emissions, but at the same time I think a lot of people have been inspired by Greta’s work to undertake their own activism.
