Although I found this book on a list of books influenced by Jane Austen's works, there is no discernible correlation AT ALL. Nevertheless, it is a very good read in its own right(/write).

It had been exciting to know that she wouldn't have to live the stiff, walking-stick life her parents had led. Her marriage to Paul was a response to theirs, just the way all marriages are a response to those earlier ones, with corrections made in the flawed texts, only to be corrected again, and yet again, over time. 244
When you have a shy child, Roz thought, you are forever worrying: Will anyone ever see her for her special qualities? Will the world ever get to know her? Will she be trampled on by the louder ones, the ones who ask for what they want, and inevitably get it? 287
… and by accident, by chance, and deliberately and stunningly let themselves fall. 303

I enjoy everything by this author, and I loved this. The writing was almost as cheesecake as The Nest, but not quite. Many everyday details are noticed and amplified. All of the points of view were interesting.

A quick read. This super high concept story of a married couple who writes a massively successful, illustrated sex book and how it affects the lives of their four kids - sounds more emotionally engaging than it was.
I preferred The Interestings, by far.

Eh. Disappointing after The Interestings, which I thought was perfection. Wolitzer is once again adept at writing group dynamics and relationships, but this novel (unlike TI) was plagued with some stilted dialogue and cheap plot twists. 2.5 stars because parts were enjoyable, but for the most part it was just OK. I still look forward to checking out some of Wolitzer's other novels!
