Wow. I have so many thoughts and feelings about this book, and while it wasn't easy I'm so glad I'm read it. Rivers Solomon has this fascinating way of writing trauma so beautifully. Vern was such an interesting character, I loved Howling and Feral, and the villain was such a scum I'm still mad about it. Before reading make sure you look at CW

I cannot find the worlds to express just how beautiful and heart-wrenching this novel is. This is an Octavia Butler-style science-fiction, “everyday-apocalypse” story that explores the deeply entrenched structural violence, racist and sexist policies, and corrupt government systems present within the United States. The characters are rich, vibrant, and candid. Do not hesitate to add this to your “books read” collection this year!
