I thought this book was nice, but nothing to write home about. Even though it was overall a little bland, I always appreciate a red headed romantic hero. They’re so tragically uncommon. Four stars because the last 25% of the book saved it. The ending was really quite touching.

I had a hard time with this book, as I hated the main female protagonist, but loved the male protagonist. I just found her to be incredibly annoying as someone who was impulsive and constantly jumping to conclusions and incredibly stubborn, but doesn't seem to learn from her mistakes. I absolutely LOVED the first book in this series, and I like the authors writing style, so I am greatly looking forward to Lydia's story, and hopefully Josephine's!

I read this first and the only drawback of reading out of order was not knowing a little more of the backstory of Lucy's parents (they're not completely terrible and uncaring) and home life.

I thought this was overall a fun read. The aunt was very snarky and funny. My biggest gripe was that she didn't just take off in either direction to find the cottage on her own. If she's impulsive and so independent then why did she stay put this one time in an obviously small town were she wouldn't get lost? She could've picked the wrong way first and ended up at his mansion accidentally or something.

Well, again the historicalness (is that even a word...?) of this one is questionable. Somehow it does keep me in it's grips though. Not sure if it's the quality of writing or my mood. Will finish the series though.

Waaaay better than the first book. Good take on spinsterhood and the things that come with it. I really liked the dynamic between the hero and heroine. It's so rare to read a book in this timeline where the hero really respected the heroine's choices. Thumbs up! I would have given it a 5 if it weren't for the heroine's out of place stubbornness (well, it seems so to me anyway).
