This book had a fascinating premise. I whipped through this one. I really enjoyed the diversity of the characters and Elsie’s internal struggle. I thought the ending was great and overall that this book was a good way to amend the atrocities of American history. My only qualms with this story were a couple of glaring continuity errors and something that Elsie was seriously blaming herself for which was clearly not her fault at all. However, I had a few more issues with the writing as it wasn’t great and Elsie’s “poetry” was honestly terrible.
Graphic: Child death
Moderate: Racism and Sexism
