I bought this book, for the bookstore part. Yes, yes, I confess. But how many times do you find bookstore + zombies + camping in a bookstore in books? Well? Almost never.
The book starts at the bookstore, but as the weeks pass, we also go to other places. There are two groups of zombies (as said by Allison). You got Floaters (quiet) and Groaners (loud and you know they are coming). The book had some scary moments, also quite a bit of gore at some parts. I loved, loved Allison. She was quite kick-ass, and I loved the part where she dropped everything and went for some books, only to get into problems. :)
There is also some romance in the book, various heartbreaking scenes, but that gives a nice change from the zombies, the danger and the pain.
I loved the fact that it was all written like a blog, with comments added. I liked reading those comments (looked forward to it), to see how people were doing in other countries/part of the world. How the world just fell apart.
I really disliked the Black Earth wives, they were just disturbing and scary, and I felt sorry for Ned.
Overall, if you like a book with: Zombies (a lot), kick-ass main girl, some romance, lots of action, then this is your book and I would recommend it to you. :)

Great addition to the zombie genre. Reads very much like you're reading someones journal. If you're into zombies for the gore, you'll be disappointed. However, if you love zombies lit for how the humans deal with death, survival, and love in the zombie apocalypse, you'll love this story.

A light and upbeat version of a zombie novel. You kind of want to be along side Allison, cracking jokes, and swinging an axe. At times, I found the book a bit tedious, couldn't figure out why I was reading it. At others, I was right there with them, biting my nails and silently egging them on.

Zombies, humor, action and all that set on a bookstore? What is not to like about this book :D
I did read this after the second one on accident, but that really is no problem. The main person from this book is only mentioned now and then in the second one, so one can easily read them as stand alone novels.
I have to say, that I did actually enjoy the second one a bit more, as the story seemed a bit better developed. But this one still was a great and entertaining read!
It's not too bloody or scary - I'm usually quite easy to scare, but this was no problem for me to read at all - even at night, alone in the house. ;)

Loved it! Reminiscent of Amanda Hocking's "Hollowland," with a strong female protagonist pushing herself to survive and save others along the way. Suspenseful and touching.
