I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars. This is a beautiful, important book that all children of all ages need to read.

One of the loveliest picture books I’ve ever read, in terms of words and art and backstory. Perfect for this moment in history and for future moments in history, and a complete and utter gem.

The illustrations and the dreamy writing style of this picture book are wonderful! Maybe I'm a little biased because I lived one half of my life in a border state and the other half in the Bay Area (yes, technically still in a border state, but I was not anywhere near the border so it just doesn't feel the same...)—the BART map and the recurring "Ay!" of our heroine were delightfully relatable to anyone who has been in a country without knowledge of the language...

While the story and the message of this book are also good, there is very little characterization going on. The only two characters are the mother and baby. I think this is what keeps the story from being truly excellent.

That being said, my daughter was captivated by the illustrations and I suspect that many other children will enjoy it, too. They are vibrant, evocative of both Mexico and San Francisco and the books centers around a theme that readers of any age will appreciate: the discovery of books!

Lovely. The kind of book I want to buy just to cut up and hang up on the wall.

Loved this story of a woman and her child crossing into the US which is based on the author's own journey, which she shares at the end. The illustrations are beautiful and I appreciated all the library love within the pages.

Dreamers is a true story about Yuyi Morales and her immigration to the United States. Yuyi left her country with nothing but her child. In the United States, she was afraid to speak until she found a library. There was able to learn to read, write, and speak for herself. This is a story about what people bring from their past experiences and stories. Everyone has their own stories to tell, no matter where we come from. I would also love to read this story as a full class because of the importance of the words as well as the imagery. The pictures were beautiful and truly told the story alongside the words.

Created from a place of experience and familiarity, this book tells the tale of emigration and immigration and the obstacles in the way with a concluding message of hope.
