I can't say I don't enjoy Dan Brown's books. I've read all of them, after all. They do hold your attention and the plot is good (a few exceptions here and there, like unnecessary romance, predictable twists and some flat characters). But every time I read one of his books, I get this sensation of dèja vu, as if I'd read it before. Especially, but not limited to, the Robert Langdon series. Dan Brown has the same style of writing, the same plotline pattern and the same writing strategies, thus ensuring it will be a best-seller. Not that there's anything wrong with that, anyway. It's a marketing strategy, and it works, because his books always sell. Despite all that, the books keep me entertained and they do cover interesting themes, like politics in Deception Point for example. That's why Dan Brown's books earned four stars.

Too many plotholes and easy quick solutions or simply luck for solving big problems. I felt bored at various moments and don't think I would ever recommend this DB book over some of his other books, which in my opinion are much better.

So memorable that it took me forever to realise I'd read it already.

A good one by Dan Brown...nice and easy suspense book! He really is great at painting the surroundings. The picture always comes in loud and clear. You literally shivered with cold while reading the Arctic thriller.

I am pretty sure I have read this before (although I don't know when). Nice easy and enjoyable, page turning read. The Author definitely has a formula for book writing. But it's till enjoyable going on the journey. It's amazing how much Dan Brown can put his poor cast through in barely 24 hours - and the distance they can cover!

Half a point extra for the plot twist because I definitely did not predict it.

I don’t know if my complaints with the book depend on the translation or not, but the writing didn’t feel engaging at all. Even when important and big events happened, it didn’t feel “big” because the writing itself was boring. The story concept is definitely interesting, but the execution was not “it” for me. I had a hard time feeling any connection with the characters and the story was quite dragged out as not much happened.

However, I was positively surprised by the last half of the book as the first half felt dragged out. So therefore the book gets 3.5 stars :)

With Dan Brown, you usually know what you're going to get, but in this case, I had no idea what to expect. I didn't read any reviews or summaries before I started, so it either could have turned into more of a romance on one end of the spectrum to the discovery of extraterrestrials on the other. I'm glad it did neither. The different government agencies added a layer of deception (so that's where the name came from!) that helped blur the lines between the good and the bad. I appreciate a book that had a solid, resolved ending. With the twists at the end, I would almost like to read this one again the future, knowing what I know now. Also, his typical bookish man + hot-but-intelligent woman mix didn't bother me in this book as much as it does in others. Perhaps because every other paragraph doesn't include a description of their physical attributes.
