Oh how I love a reformed playboy! Anton, or "Baby Bayer" as the cousin of retired hockey player Eric Bayer was introduced to us in Moonlighter, is quite the package- a fantastic young athlete with an outgoing personality and a reputation for having ALL the fun while playing hockey for the Brooklyn Bruisers. Our heroine is Sylvie, a goalie for the new female hockey team in Brooklyn, the Bombshells.

At the beginning of the book, we learn about Sylvie's long time crush on another Bruiser player, but I enjoyed seeing her friendship grow and change into something more with Anton. I definitely wouldn't describe the situation as a love triangle.

I was so excited to see the Bombshells play and meet the team. These women are strong, supportive athletes and teammates and they showcase such positive relationships and friendships- so refreshing to see a group of women with no cattiness. I am so on board for more books featuring players from both the Bruisers and Bombshells.

I listened to an audio copy, and I enjoyed the performances of narrators Patrick Zeller and Desiree Ketchum very much. Both were new-to-me and I will definitely be watching for more of their work to listen to in the future. As I always do, I increased the speed to 1.3X and found it to be perfectly conversational and easy to understand.

lemme just start it by saying that i was def not ready to see Scarlet and Bridger back!!! i love the world sarina create it just keeps getting better and better. see other characters even than just for a little bit in series that aren't fully connected is what i love the most about it.

and now about anton and sylvie... the only thing i didn't like was the hair pins part, idk it felt kind of weird to me, i think it was supposed to be fun and addorable and i found it very annoying and stupid.
but besides it, their story were so good. i'm here for bad boys that are actually good boys.

We’re back in Brooklyn and all is right in the world! The Brooklyn Bruisers and their partners are second to none and Sarina Bowen just added another sweet and endearing couple to mix with Anton and Sylvie. Sarina really knows how to write a hockey romance while also bringing real issues in professional sports to life. I think this book really captured the disparity between men’s and women’s professional sports and it was so easily woven into the story - really hoping we get more of that in future Brooklyn Bruisers stories as the Bombshells franchise continues to grow.

Anton Bayer is all grown up (Baby Bayer no more?) and is ready to get back in the game, no matter what it takes. After a season of craziness and disappointment, he’s turning over a new leaf this season...new rules and more motivation/drive to succeed and prove himself than ever before. But, on the first day back on the ice, he catches sight of the Bombshells’ backup goalie and it turns things on their head.

Sylvie never expected to get the call to go to Brooklyn to join the Bombshells as their backup goalie, but she’s out to make a name for herself and get back into the game. Dealing with loss and heartbreak, she has to learn to overcome both to do what’s right for her and to live a life she wants to live. Anton shows her what real friendship looks like, not just obligation and it opens her whole world up to new possibilities.

The two of them together was just so easy...their chemistry was there and they started off as friends, so their natural pull towards each other just developed over time. Their banter was really sweet and I loved how they interacted with each other. Probably one of the most endearing things in this book is Anton’s Frankenwords - I mean, “masturdating” and “snootch”? How could you not love that and the charming guy who comes up with them?? But, I will say that I felt like their story was lacking some of the emotional heft that I’ve come to expect from the Brooklyn Bruisers stories...it felt a little surface level at times and I really wanted more from them - more conversation, more getting to know each other, just...more.

I’d really love a novella or short story or something about Bryce Campeau - he’s so interesting and set in his ways, but we definitely see that that’s not always the case toward the end! Also loved that Scarlet and Bridger are back after their story in The Ivy Years series...who doesn’t love a good crossover?! Already can’t wait to get back to Brooklyn with Neil Drake and his lady (maybe Charli??) next year in Shenanigans!

Sarina is always a easy one click author. There is just something special and unique with her writing style. Also with living in St. Louis I love to follow the Blues our hockey team. Nice surprise that in this story the girls play on the hockey team. Fun and sweet story. So fun to hop into all hockey stories. Desiree Ketchum is a top of the top narrator and she brings the story alive from the first page until the end. Patrick is a new to me narrator but I also enjoyed listening to his narration. The journey of their friendship is incredible. I do not want to give any more details as I like to go into a story blind.

Bombshells is the next book in the Brooklyn Bruisers series by the fabulous Sarina Bowen. Oh Lord, baby Bayer how I love you so! And Sylvie you are a bada** bombshell! I love a good hockey romance and this was men and women's hockey! Oh heck yeah! Anton Bayer is cleaning up his act. No booze, no scandals and no women. And then he meets Sylvie. She's the goalie for the women's hockey team, the Bombshells. And a long time friend of his teammate, Campo. This is not good. But Anton wants to be around her. She makes him smile and laugh and he can't stay away from her. They become work out buddies and friends. And then more than friends. And it's fun, sexy and exciting but they are not exactly telling people. What will it take for Anton to finally admit his feelings before it's too late? I loved Anton and Sylvie! Their fun banter, the sexiness, the hockey! It was everything I wanted it to be and more! I loved all the new characters and can't wait for more from the Bombshells!

Audio: Patrick Zeller, Desireé Ketchum are both new narrators to me and I loved them! Patrick was the perfect Anton using his voice to show his emotions. His French accent did sound a little Spanish a few times, but it didn't stop me from loving his performance! Desiree did a great French accent and I'm looking forward to listening to more from these narrators!
