I really wanted to love this book, but I walked away with the feeling that it could have been a magazine article rather than a book. The last 50 pages were much better than the rest tho and salvaged it for me.

This one was a surprise! I picked this up on a complete whim when I found it on a shelf in my library, because our family has been planning a golf trip to Ireland (darn you, CoVid!).
I'm a newbie to golf and certainly don't appreciate it in the way that my family does, but this book gave me a taste of why so many people are profoundly reverent towards a game that is absolutely infuriating. I have a newfound respect for the history of golf and for its most hallowed courses.
Tom Coyne masterfully turns a nonfiction book about wanting to play Ireland's best hits into a (literally) laugh-out-loud funny, deeply nostalgic, and introspective look at golf and life. I'd even recommend this one to non-golfers without hesitation, and can't wait to read his other books!

This was a reasonably entertaining read, especially since I like Ireland and walking, but I'm not really that into golf, so the frequent superlatives bestowed upon the various links courses were somewhat lost on me.
