'Speak Up' is a short, yet sweet prose in which Roldan describes times where she wishes she spoke out on certain situations, which in turn encourages her own readers to use their own voices. The vulnerability that you are faced with almost feels like you are finding a friend within the book, sharing your stories and comforting one another. You will either want to hug Roldan herself or give yourself a hug. A whirlwind of emotions awaits you when reading this prose, but you will also be met with hope by the end. A lovely and encouraging piece for those who may also be struggling to find their voice.

I read this prose every Summer as a checkpoint reminder to myself that I have a voice and it would only be self-sabotage to not use it. I recommend 'Speak Up' to everyone who may need that glimmer of hope, encouragement to speak up, or who may just be looking for a quick, good read. This is it.
