I first read this book in grade four, after finding it by chance during a field trip. I was intrigued and mystified by it. It was intricate and delicious and complicated. Only ten years later, I could remember very little about it beyond the sense of wonder it had instilled. It was like a fever dream, half remembered. Another ten years pass, and here I am, I’ve found another copy of it. And… it was underwhelming. Perhaps I’m rating it unfairly because what could possibly live up to the foggy memory? It was enjoyable and fun, but it’s nothing special. Alas.

I loved this book as a child. It was read aloud to me at school and I read it on my own several times as well. I don't know what made me think of it now but I hope to reread it as an adult sometime soon.

This was my favorite book in middle school, and idk why. Probably because she had a crown she could fold up and put in her pocket.

Giving a four for nostalgia. And the fact that many other people along with me remembering reading this book as a kid and found it extremely fascinating. Definitely a book that got me into reading and one I thought of for years. Not to mention the art got me more into art (I'm an artist).

My dad read this book to me a few times when I was little. I am surprised I remember some of the story. I really liked the fantastical parts of this book. And sometimes my mind will wander to this story and things I will relate things in real life to the story. The imagery in the book was great. I visualized the story in my town just based n the imagery. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy and for any child who wants to start reading fantasy.
