i love the great gatsby, but i definitely prefer the novel over the graphic novel.

Gorgeous adaptation, with on-point Jazz Age style! I find it to be a feature that you have to bring in your previous readings of the book to actually put all of the pieces together.

i wasn't 100% on board with this adaptation, but I do think that the art style was still crafted by a talented hand. the real wonder of this was the story and the lines pulled right from fitzgerald's novel. i haven't yet read the book, but this solidified my want to do so. each character (especially nick and gatsby) felt quite...real. like I was truly reading streams of thoughts and snippets of conversations instead of an imagined story. every word was chosen so artfully. and the GLAMOUR my gOD! roaring twenties-era fiction is just so interesting.

Beautifully illustrated and organized complement to the novel.
It would be difficult to fully grasp the complexity of the book without having read the novel, but this works alongside it nicely. When teaching Gatsby to my reluctant readers this year, I subbed a few chapters of the novel for chapters of the graphic novel (chapter 1, the end of chapter 4, and chapter 6, to be precise) and this helped them interact with the story in a new way that I found worked overall.
