Loved loved loved the first 1/3 of this book: an insightful and slightly spooky exploration of the intricacies of female friendship and uncertain sexuality. The last third got a bit hokey and I feel like a lot of the dramatic reveals at the end felt unnecessary. Still really enjoyed this book! Henkel does a great job of building an atmosphere.

I loved this so much - I’ve heard it’s being adapted into a tv show/film and it’s perfect for it. Calla Henkel does such a great job of getting visuals across without labouring the point, and I think it’s going to translate to screen beautifully. It’s such a wild story and, while I would usually be tempted to point out the implausibility of certain aspects, the book throws out so many questions of unreliable narrators and the art of narrative that it almost seems beside the point to question whether it really ‘happened’.
