While I liked the personal growth Maisie makes in book four, I thought the treatment of the case was a flop.

With less of the mystic and more of the personal stories in this book, I thought it was as good as the first one.
Maisie's foray into the art world was quite fascinating and her own private growth has taken a turn for the better.
I'm looking forward to the next mystery.

The clues to solve the mystery were relatively easy to follow, but the character development is what makes these books worth reading. Excellent writing.

After reading the first 3 books in this series, I was hoping to see the development of writing style by the author. This book is it.
A gripping and interesting tale.

My least favorite Maisie Dobbs book so far. She was snotty and morose for too much of the book, and the characters involved in her case never really resonated with me. The last couple of chapters also felt rushed, like the author had too much to explain at the end so had to fit it all in. It's logical I'll like some stories in a series more than others, though, so I'm continuing with the books.
