I initially thought I wouldn't like this book, because it started really weird and I'm no fan of metaphorical and basically strange writing styles. Instead... I surprisingly enjoyed it. It is very weird but in a good way and hats off to the author because this is such a unique and complex writing style which i didn't completely get but that fascinated me. This book isn't about facts and plot and moments and characters; it's about points of view and metaphors and cinema and meaning and symbolism and other abstract facts, which i couldn't understand fully because it's simply not what i normally read. I obviously found a way to get attached to the characters and to care about details of their lives which wasn't the point of the book but oh well. So many questions about what happened and what's gonna happen and was it all a big fat metaphor? I guess I'll never know but i can certainly say i quite enjoyed the ride.

this book was so incredibly intriguing to read. it's characters and the relationships between them were definitely the focus of the book as there was no discernible plot. the subtle symbolism and monotone emotion really made me analyze hard -- don't read this book if you're lazy, you won't get anything out of it.
I didn't particularly like Smith's writing style. it is stream of consciousness writing, and it is told from multiple different perspectives, which I didn't really enjoy. I also was disgusted by Amber throughout the whole book and none of the other characters were particularly likable either

I really am a big fan of Ali Smith’s writing style even when I feel like I’m not understanding all the complexities

I was really disappointed by this book. It was highly praised, won awards, but I found it weird and downright dull in parts.
